I finally received my "Artistic Mother" in the mail. I know I am behind in the group... so I got going! Here are some of my background pages. It was fun playing in paints like this.... felt like kindergarten all over again and it wasn't long before all three kids were painting along with me which is really what this is all about.

Rock Glen

On Sunday, we gathered up the kids and went to Thedford, they have the greatest little antique shop there... check out this cool toboggan we picked up. My husband is 6 foot 1.... so you can see how tall this thing is. Cannot wait to try it out! Guess that will have to wait until next year....not much snow left now. They didn't want to go at first but they quickly warmed up to the idea.....

Rock Glen is a popular tourist attraction, but this time of year it is desserted. So peaceful and quiet... we had the place to ourselves.

The waterfall is lovely.

I have always loved the sound of water. Its very nourishing.

Kirk and I.....we were looking a little impatient..... it sure took her a LONG time to take this photo! But it is nice to actually have a picture of us. Usually its just pictures of the kids!

Although the place was quiet and serene... there were signs that people had been there before us.

And signs of spring.....

Watch out for the mud monsters though!

Stratford Ontario

The girls and I left the boys at home on Friday and headed up to Stratford, Ontario. This place just makes me happy. It was a beautiful warm spring day to end our week of freedom that was March Break.
The architecture makes me swoon. I wish they made buildings like this now a days....

I can only image how sweet it would be to live here... and peer out this pretty window ... can you see those sweet pink geraniums blooming on that window sill?

The street-scape goes on and on like this...... oh, so pretty.....

This lovely lady sits atop a pretty water fountain.... there wasn't any water yet....

These true words are engraved on the bottom of the fountain. They ring very true for me.

In the warmer months these lion heads will shoot water from their mouths....

A war memorial which made the girls stop and think for a moment...

And of course.....

Cuz... you know I wouldn't love it if it didn't have antiques.

And then there is the churches.....

I joined up for Mary Ann Moss' online workshop "Remains of the Day" and I absolutely had the time of my life. It was SO much fun. The idea is to use up all of your scraps and use your sewing machine to put them all together to make pages for a journal.This is my cover.... And my many many pages

It truly was so much fun. I loved her freestyle and you can make no mistakes attitude. Fun fun fun!

Now I am busy filling the pages with journalling and photos.

If you are considering trying this online tutorial I would highly highly recommend it.

I was already having a great time when Pam Garrison came along to share a tutuorial too! Love her work and the fact that she doesn't mind sharing her ideas. If your the least bit interested in art journalling... you will love this e-zine.

It is with much joy that I spend time with my "middle" child... just she and I. Her softness, innocence, giggles, and unique personality make my heart sing.

My oldest daughter is away at sleepaway camp. I miss her like I would never have imagined. I think of her every third second and wonder what she is doing - is she warm enough, is she having fun - does she miss home? Is it Friday yet?

Latest flea finds.... gorgeous old lace. This unopened package is from the now defunct Canadian department store, Eatons. Can you imagine getting 12 yards for 25 cents? I wonder if that was expensive at the time? It is very pretty trim... not sure that I will be able to open it though. Silly me.

Very pretty, tatted, old quilted pillowcases which I plan on taking apart and re-making into something else.

Gorgeous velvet ribbons in pretty shades of sky blue...

Cute little china candleholders. I found these at a thrift store for $1.50. Sweet.

Old box from Japan.... really loving the aging design on top....

Velvet Love

I told myself I would NOT buy another vintage jewelry box.... until I found this one.... the color of that blue velvet just makes me swoon. I am totally loving velvet these days. The cost was $4.00. I couldn't walk away. These little cuties were in a bag of vintage things I bought. They are in the most amazing condition. Their clothes are just so well kept. Somebody loved them.... they are going up on etsy....

I purchased this silk floral pin keep... this is the inside.... love the rusting pin that has probably been there for years and years.... (my husband is shaking his head in wonder at me)

So pretty.....

Also bought these vintage scissors. I am always amazed at how the quality of vintage items surpasses those of today's items. I would gladly buy something old and used and know it is going to last me a very long time.

And another pin keep... the velvet fascination again. Super sweet and only about an inch and half big.

And again, old velvet iris flower.... wrinkled, worn, and stained..... just my speed!

Here is a few more photos of our trip to Kilarney... which was my first visit to our new cottage. This is the view on the boat ride to the cottage..... towering rock walls covered in pine trees.... just breathtaking.... This is the back of the cottage.... those are bear scratches.... I admit I did some reading up on black bears and what happens if you run into them.... we haven't yet....(counting blessings)

We drove 7 hours by car, one hour by boat. It was peaceful, remote, quiet, breathtakingly beautiful. We're all so glad we went.....

I love vintage children's books and I try and hoard them away from my kids. Bad mommy.

I want another baby. Is 4 too many? Is 38 too old? Am I too crazy?

I have a fascination with Paris.... always wanted to go..... hubby doesn't. I need a travelling partner. Hard to go to Paris with 4 babies.

My husband and I recently bought a cottage up in Kilarney, Ontario. I haven't seen in yet. Crazy again.

I love everything Pam Garrison makes.

Sometimes I miss the city.

Art Journal

This is the cover of my new art journal. Its a vintage atlas. This paper is a Somerset "Art to Borrow" by Pam Garrison. Its one of my favs....I have been busy busy with my art journal. This activity has really taken over for me. It is a time that relaxes and soothes me. I love looking back and reading the entries because I forget everything so quickly these days... its terrible! Sometimes one of my daughters will want to write something.... which I love too.... such a keepsake....

Sometimes just cut and paste pictures or art that inspires me....

Sometimes no words at all....

Sometimes a photograph which captures a feeling I am having at that moment in time.

Through my childhood I also attempted to keep diaries but after a few entries they would be left to the wayside.... this is a journal that has finally caputured my interest.... at least for now.

We're back! Yipppee. Its been hard without a computer... you really miss it, but on the other hand its amazing what you can accomplish when your not sitting in front of the screen everynight. I have missed visiting some of my favorite blogs and hearing news of friends but otherwise, maybe a good lesson in time managment was learned. My first tree peony has bloomed. These flowers are the size of my hand outstretched. They are amazing and the smell sends me swirling.... but now the thunderstorms start - so I brought them inside, even though I prefer to enjoy them in the garden... the crazy rains destroy peonies.

I spend some time with photography over the last week. I am really not that satisfied with my camera.... or maybe I need to take some classes or something.... the pictures are just not as glorious as I would hope.... but the subjects are divine.

My daughters and I travelled to Stratford, Ontario today for a flea market run. It is a charming Victorian city nestled in pastoral countryside a few short hours from Toronto and the U.S. Home to the Stratford Festival - a lovely place to visit. They also have fabulous flea markets! Thanks to them... I am surrounded in beauty and I still have more to share.

My husband bought me this magnolia tree for my 30th birthday. I am now 38 (almost!) and it has finally decided to bloom....

Good things come to those who wait. Sweet anticipation of my lovely tree peony....

Ok, I guess I can admit it to you... I've been out treasure hunting again....

I generally buy cheap cigar boxes to contain my little goodies.... check out this one! It surprised me because usually I see them made from cardboard, but this one is made from metal.... This is the top of it....I love the design.... it says Our Future King - the Prince of Wales...

And then you open it... .and this is on the inside!

The colors are so vivid and bright.... I really like it. Some more buttons... and mother of pearl buckles which look so pretty with a bright ribbon strung through them....

And a gigantic vintage book with this fabulous cover.... mmmm...... just love all those swirls... I have to run my fingers over it each time I look at it.... all that yummy texture! This would make a great journal if I can bring myself to alter it.

I also particpated in an ATC swap and here is a little sneak peak.... theme was polka dots.

Suz just spoiled me rotten! You won't believe your eyes! This is one of the beautiful silk peonies which decorates my basket.... the color is amazing and they are super gorgeous. The basket itself is total eye candy....

Here it is before I opened it.... I could hardly wait to get it open!

The basket is a soft pink and Suz wrapped this brilliant ribbon around the handle that matches the pink peonies... (which are my favorite flower in the whole wide world)

Here is all her sweet offerings laid out for the eyes to absorb! So many many pretty things....

Sweet little baby tags to satisfy my baby addiction....

Incredible candy colored glass buttons, delicious soy candles, millinery and the cutest little birdie napkins I have ever seen! Too cute to use!

The most amazing ribbons all in my favorite colors... and a beautiful hankie swag so lovingly sewn with all their adorable crocheted trims and decorations....

Check out these sticker borders - I have never seen anything like them. Love their muted colors and old world design... totally up my alley! Sweet spring themed ribbons... I cannot wait to dive into them!

This incredible china mug along with coffee of course... my favorite.... and sweet vintage millinery... always a hit in my house.... and so much more, and more, and more!

And my absolute most favorite item of all was this vintage baby emphemera. It has completely stolen my heart. I have never seen anything so sweet.

Pretty little flowers... an easter gift from my inlaws... sweeties that they are...... Little care card I made for a friend.... just used ledger paper as background and added little art snippets from magazines....I hope she likes it....

What do you think of this? I found it at value village.... the thrift department store.... I think its pretty... never seen one like this.... not sure if I should take the circular part off the metal brooch and use it somewhere else or just enjoy it as is....?

And of course I found another little bag of pretty vintage buttons... love the mother of pearl buckle and the rhinestone ones are my ulitmate fav.....

I've got springness happening around here today. I am actually walking around in the house in bare feet with the windows open... ahhhh.... I can hear birds chirping and my favorite frog song... it's all good.... I was inspired to make this little paper flower after seeing Pam's coffee filter garland... it is made with those itty bitty paper baking cups. I thought it turned out pretty cute... I'd like to make about 20 more and put them in a pretty bowl... but I don't think that is going to happen! These cuties are appearing in my garden... not sure what they are called, and they don't flower at all, but I love their little green rosebud like circles... super sweet.....

Found these velvet beauties at my local small town antique store. It's actually an old hat... there are literally hundreds of these little blooms on it.... its begging to be de-constructed!!

And finally, here are my two sweet diggity dogs. I think they would like to jump for joy that it has finally stopped snowing here! This is shasta... (named after the daisy) ....

and this is lee loo... (she is named after a character in a Bruce Willis movie... I know you can see my train of thought here!) ha ha....

They are both getting kind of long in the teeth.... I do enjoy their company so.... Have a great Thursday!!

It's been awhile. Not sure why I lost ambition to keep up with the blog. I think this very long Canadian winter has had lots to do with it. Seems like we keep getting these little teasers of spring and still winter comes back.

Thought I would share my latest fascination with you. Dagguerotype vintage photographs. I think that is the right spelling but I am not certain. They are lovely.... in little cases, with intricate details, velvet on one side and gold foil on the other. Breathtaking and not cheap. I have a few now and I adore them.
I found more pretty vintage lace... this set in soft blues and creams....

this adorable little book... filled with little quotes that make me smile....

and of course buttons... all lined up in pretty vintage velvet jewelry case.

I am looking forward to catching up with all of you!

hi! It FINALLY feels like spring here today. It has been a long cold snowy Canadian winter. So nice to feel the sun's warmth again. I am enjoying a week of holidays with my girls this week for March Break. We've been doing some cutting and pasting and just really laying low and relaxing. So far, its been marvelous. It feels fresh and fun. Here's some of my art journal pages....

Flea Finds

Sorry for my long absence. Feeling listless these days... not really able to focus.... not sure what I should be doing....seem to end up going to bed early instead of doing anything. I think I am just getting anxious for spring... so many teasers of it, but then winter rears its head again....I am trying to maintain my positive outlook!

Found some fun treasuers.... all of which I have listed in my etsy shop. Whatever doesn't sell I get to keep....!! Sweet vintage buttons... love the delicate little flower which is contained inside the buttons...
Love this vintage Paris cigarette case. It still has old cigarettes inside it! This sold right away. Cool keepsake for storing little treasures...

Old Victorian Photo Album from around 1904. Its in pretty good condition. The pages are all still in tact. Usually I find them with the pages falling out. Its super sweet.

and this cool old monopoly game! All the pieces are wooden and the money has a 1935 copyright date on it. The board is missing though.... I wonder what it looked like. The old box is just so cool - love it!

I've been continuing to work on my fabric journal and I will have some photos to share soon. So.... what've you been up to?

Itty Bitty Book Swap - Spring and Art Journal

I finished my Itty Bitty Book Swap spring pages.... here's a peek...

the forget me nots are on the back. I also decided I needed a new art journal that I could insert pages into. I was finding that I had a lot of loose pages with no where for them to end up. So here it is. My son recently destroyed his hardback dinosaur book by ripping off the covers, so I used those. Gesso and then decoupage.

Can you see the madonna and baby? I am always fascinated bymadonna and baby images...not sure why...

Inside front cover....and page of me and hubby I threw together because I had that photo laying around in a drawer. My 7 year old took it... I love it.

1. I live in beautiful Canada, in the middle of no where, with my husband, three kids, two dogs, and two cats - I used to be a city girl, but now I will never go back;

2. Someday I want to have my own stable and horses;

3. I rarely watch TV (if it weren't for my kids I don't think I ever would) (maybe just the Oscars);

4. I used to do a lot of scrapbooking until I discovered collage and my entire style (read world) changed;

5. I adore gardening - peonies are my absolute favorite flower - I have more varieties than I can count;

6. I love love love coffee and will drink it just about anytime, anywhere;

7. I am constantly fighting my natural instinct to keep everything - I love my "stuff".

Vintage quilted Hearts

I have been working on embellishing these old quilted hearts.... thought I would share them with you. I love that they are old and worn in places...... enjoying the simple act of stitching...getting lost in the moment.

I had a very old worn quilt which I ended up giving away because it was too worn to use... now I am wishing I had kept it because all these neat projects are now coming to mind. Hate that!

My daughter brought home this book from the school library.....

Thought I would check it out..... and was surprised to see knitting included in a children's craft book. I have always been kind of intimidated by knitting.... always thought it was hard....well, if it is in a kid's craft book... it couldn't be all that hard? Could it??

So I headed out to my closest thrift store... picked up a couple of needles (25cents) and a ball of wool (50cents) and look!

I did it! It is really not that hard and its kind of fun! I admit I am not making sweaters or socks or anything like that but if you are thinking knitting is a hands off project because its too hard.... its not! I promise! Try it!

So so so so beautiful. Wishing I liked my handwriting better. Thinking I should buy a good calligraphy pen and book and practice, practice, practice. Does anyone have recommendations for a good do it yourself handwriting/calligraphy book??

I am home today... feeling under the weather... speaking of weather - here it is, outside my window.... snowy, cold, very unspringlike...I know, its January in Canada... But look what hubby brought me..... ahhhh, sweet.....

Awhile back, I found this old compact at our small town thrift store... it was really damaged on top.... the coating was all flaking off.... but I loved it - so it came home with me and has been sitting on my desk waiting..... I was really hesitant in gluing anything on to it - but it wasn't making me happy the way it was. Now it looks like this.....

I added one of Julie's large scalloped tags and tatted flower (which I adore by the way) and a vintage rhinestone. I love the way it turned out.... now it can hold some sweet little treasures instead of looking sad and worn out! Here is the inside... in case you were wondering.....

And a side view..... and yep, that snowy white background is snow!

And I think because I am not feeling so great, and just sitting here, looking around, I am seeing the beauty in my surroundings....

I found this dress at value village. Is there value village in the US??? Its like a big department store sized thrift store. Its my happy place... anyways, I found this white vintage tulle wedding dress... and for $16 I had to buy it. Of course my two princesses were first to jump in!

I have been reading alot about art journals lately and am so inspired by all the photographs of journals out there which combine art and/or images and words and thoughts. I have read that your not suppose to think so much and just let it come out. Here is my page from yesterday.I really enjoy the process, cutting, gluing, but when it comes time to put in the words - my wall goes up. I really struggle with that part of it.
I really love those journal pages with all the writing, and different letter types and squiggles.... I am going to keep trying! Maybe it will just come with time??

I came across this sweet little tin at the antique mall. Love its aged patina and the fonts and graphics on the tin.... Patent 1910....

And the cherry on top is that it is filled with itty bitty rubber stamps...month, day, and year. The year stamps run from 1920 to 1926! This has become one of my favorite treasures!

After years of trying to maintain a journal, and failing to be consistent, I have discovered the journal that keeps me interested. It is a collection of small collages of pieces of papers that I love or admire.... clipped from magazines, a note or drawing sent by a friend, a found item or scrap. Arranged in a pretty way and added to miscellanious thoughts, to do lists, things to try or buy, doodles.... I am finally staying at it.

Winter Pastimes

Lately, I have been drawn to needle and thread while sitting in front of the TV at night after a long day at work. I don't really have any plan in mind... I just keep reaching for whatever supply might be within reach.... Here is my latest little fabric collage.... most of these art supplies were purchased from the fabulous Julie Collings. www.juliecollings.etsy.com I am definately in a sequin and embroidery thread phase. I enjoyed the results. I will likely turn it into some kind of valentine.

My husband says I have a vintage button magnet in my head. Everywhere I go I find them. I have to buy them. Then I sell them on my etsy shop and then I find more at thrift stores, antique stores... its crazy. I love them but my house will soon be overflowing with cute vintage plastic buttons I tell you!! Have a happy weekend!

Well, it has been a whirlwind of family, packages, dishes, sleep, and laughter. What a wonderful wonderful time of year. I know how lucky I am to have all that I do and to share my life with a bunch of really special people. Today - I am counting my blessings.

1. My three children... who keep me guessing, wondering, and laughing;
2. My husband....who loves me unconditionally and supports my strangest whims;
3. Karen....whos love and support I can feel from miles away - she just gets me;
4. My Mom and Dad who would do just about anything for me and my children;
5. My job - not only for financial support, flexibility and having a human touch in a big corporate world, but for providing me with a wonderful group of friends who have become a part of my family;
6. My home: which gives me warmth, security, and contentment;
7. Access to this great big computer world which has allowed me to realize that I am not one lost soul swimming in a fish bowl and there are like minded women out there who also like old chippy junk, getting lost in an antique mall for 4 hours and cutting and pasting pretty things too!

The Wood Carver's Daughter

I am a wood carver's daughter..... Last year, my dad made me this gorgeous Saint Nick for Christmas. He is handcarved from a chunk of wood and handpainted. He is one of my favorite decorations... I know he was made with love.... He usually makes these amazing birds... owls, hawks, song birds, which I will show you someday as well.... but at Christmas he makes these and they make my heart happy....

These two cuties were gifts at our tree trimming party....

Both of my parents are extremely talented in their crafts.... I only hope some of that talent rubs off on me!!

I snuck out to the flea market on my lunch today. It is kind of bittersweet because it is closing December 31 and everything is 10-50% off. There are so many great deals to be had. I am going to miss that place like nobody's business. But anyways, here's the treasures....

Very old vintage children's blocks. I am drawn to these. Not sure why. Out of 12 blocks I was actually able to spell... JEN! See? It was just fate.
Adorable bottle brush trees... which is another of my addictions. These ones have the neatest stands... they are like little wooden handles almost. (That cute baby in the foreground is my mom... and the cute baby in the background is my 7 year old, Reese)

And.. as you know I adore vintage glass bead garlands.... this one has the largest beads... they are like the size of grapes! This stopped me in my tracks.... and check out the cute box it came in! Double lucky!

And...again, another of my Christmas collections is these little vintage cardboard houses.... they are starting to become expensive. Well.... I got this huge church and a bunch of little ones for a song. They are so sweet......

I had to laugh. This adorable bird was also made by Kiana. Isn't he fabulous?? I am going to make the image into greeting cards... I just love it so much. It is finger print paint art.

And this is an adorable little girl all made from ribbon scraps by my amazing 7 year old Reese! Love it too. Kid art is the best!!

Halloween night was just gorgeous. The weather could not have been better. It had been about 18 degrees in the daytime and about 15 degrees at trick or treating time. A beautiful night. I had with me an elephant....

And a lion... who somehow escaped my camera! Little lion was a little unsure at first... but after those treats starting dropping into his pumpkin he really got the idea and was quite enjoying himself!

Devil's Night

Here in Canada it is Devil's night.... the night before Halloween. We light our pumpkins to ward off evil spirits and we turn out all the lights as soon as it becomes dark. (which is about 6pm!) Addiction Counsellor Needed

Ok - I am seriously addicted to these. I admit I am a bit (ok... ALOT) of a Christmas girl. I love it. ALOT. Yeah, sorry, I said that already. But these little vintage glass beads make me so happy. I love them in this jar... beside my computer. I love them in art work.... but I never want to use them. I just like to look at them.
My next problem is I pick up things that I plan to sell on my etsy site but then I fall in love with them and I can't sell them. Its crazy! Like I don't have enough "stuff" already! I think I need to re-learn the concept of sharing! This button for instance..... and this amazing metal buckle... (I finally caved and listed this one while secretly hoping that I might end up keeping it for myself!)

And these earring and necklace set... that I will probably never wear... but they are so pretty. The beads are really heavy and shiny..... See? See? I need an addiction counsellor and quick!

Sweet Heidi over at Dreams Intertwined was my awesome swap partner for Artsy Mama's Sweet and Sinister Swap... I so enjoyed getting to know her as I think we have a lot in common and a lot of similiar interests.... well.... let me tell you - she just SPOILED me rotten! I am delighted to show you all of my goodies..... firstly, she sent my three sweeties each the most adorable orange and black suckers.... they were just so happy to receive these....

We're still flying high!! LOL!

This is my sweet Jack in his new home.... he has just stolen my heart.... I adore him....

And check this out...... (sorry the pic didn't turn out the greatest but this is so cool) It is made with vintage papers, and feathers, and all mounted on a great old wooden hanger... what a great original treat! I love it! It travelled so well too.... I just can't tell you how cool this is.

And this adorable vintage book, with a sweet cabinet card of this adorable little baby (I'm a bit of a baby addict!)
Check out the cool metal flower embellishment with vintage button in the centre.... I think this is so great! I am thinking I will put it on my winter coat or a lampshade even - what a treasure... and a sweet embelllished notebook too!

Apologies and Accomplishments

I know, bad, bad blogging. Seems my life is a whirlwind of lunches, hockey, laundry, work, weeding, cleaning, and laughing.... I have had the worst cold and hubby has been away... and a break is always nice but when you have three kids and a cold maybe a shorter break would be good! Which leads me to my three greatest accomplishments......

These are kids that ake me laugh everyday. My oldest, is patient, calm, smart, independent, a joy to be with... so relaxing. My middle child has a stallion's spirit, she challenges me to be truthful and wise. She too is very smart and not much gets past her! Last, but not least, my sweet boy brings wonder to my life. Each found item is a miracle to share and his infectious laugh brings joy to my heart. If the whole world were to collapse around me and I had nothing left but these three precious souls I know I would be ok. Today, I am counting my blessings for them because they truly are my little miracles.

Somebody Loves Me

I sure am glad I bought this four leaf clover.... because look what it brought me.... I cannot believe I found a dressform in smalltown Ontario Canada. I walked into Mom and Pop's antique shop and there she was.... $175.00 too much. I think they noticed I was drooling a bit so they offered her to me for 50% off and I was still going to walk away.... what? Was I crazy?? I having been lusting after these for 6 months and never even seen one! Well.. maybe four leaf clovers are lucky after all....??? And hubby doesn't even mind her.... well, he thinks I should sell it.... but I refuse because I am already in love.....

I remember

I remember, on this anniversary of September 11th, when a piece of my heart was stolen. It still pains me to remember. I think this date is imprinted on everyone's mind. I really had never experienced much grief in my life until that day. It still pains me to remember it as I am sure it does for you as well. It seems like only yesterday. I feel for the wives and husbands, the children, the families. Such a terrible terrible loss. Whatever or whomever it is that you love, grab a hold of them, and love them today and everyday.

We Must Go Home

I have really been struggling with time. I have been throwing all of my extra time (after family, home and day job) into my etsy shoppe. Trying to make it successful.... trying to find the "right" things, wondering, waiting, looking. I need to remind myself that it doesn't matter so much. Do your best and see what happens. When I talk to myself, remind myself, that its ok if it doesn't sell, its ok if I don't watch it everyday, I feel better, I feel more relaxed. The whole reason I begun the etsy thing was to support my creative expenses and now I am spending so much time selling stuff I don't have enough time to create.... does this ever happen to you?? I guess it goes back to stop and smell the roses.... stop and remember what makes you happy.... and do it - no matter what.

Flea Market Finds

Tonight, on my way home from work, I was able to stop in at the flea market since hubby was watching the kids... (YAY!). I am so excited to show you what I found.... firstly, this incredible book....

It weighs a ton.... cannot wait for a cold wintery night to dive into it..... then these.....

Two of my favs... forget me nots and babies..... You can't really tell by the photo but her hat has these little raised polka dots.... it is SO cute. Once of the sweetest post cards I have come across... and posted in 1904~ This old shorthand book.... falling apart, but I love the cover and the insides are great for artwork... all those old shorthand marks!
And finally, a vintage photo of three sisters....
Do you think they are triplets? Hubby thinks the one on the left of the screen and the one standing are twins but I think they all look identical. Love them. Love flea markets. Love free time!! Have a great Labour Day Weekend!!

Saying goodbye to Summer

Where I am, on this little planet of ours, (Canada) it feels like fall. The leaves are beginning to turn, the pumpkins are getting orange on their vines, and there is a definate chill in the air. Not that I mind.... I love fall..... but it is so hard to say goodbye to summer. I think that is why I have been attracted to soft pastel colors, sea shells, and shimmery jewels these last few weeks.... maybe, in some way, I am trying to avoid the inevitable, and enjoy those warm summer days for a few moments more.....

I wanted to take a second to acknowledge and thank my friend Alisa . We have never met and yet each day she takes the time to visit me and share her thoughts. She is always encouraging, and positive, creative and interesting. Thank you Alisa for taking time from your life to be a part of mine! Baby Steps

I collect vintage baby shoes. Not sure why. Just do. Whenever I see a pair... hanging just so, from their sweet worn laces in some little antique store... I just cannot help myself. The problem is keeping them away from my 7 year old daughter who loves to put them on her dolls and bears. They do look cute in them. My husband's grandmother recently presented me with a little bag tied in a bow. Inside was my husband's baby shoes. I was so touched - I immediately had tears in my eyes. I think it effected me so much because I know how hard it must have been for her to give them up. She has been hanging on to those sweet little shoes for 40 years. She raised my husband and he has always been her little sweetie boy. I will treasure them... and one day.... maybe one of my sweet grandchildren can try them on for size.

Camping surprise

Hubby took the two girls up north camping.... Kilarney. It is Northern Ontario, near Sudbury... about a 7 hour drive from where we live. Beautiful, rocky terrain. Lovely. Me and the boy stayed home to bond. My oldest daughter is a true to life tom boy. She'll pick up a toad, frog, snake... you name it. Well, you can imagine my concern when hubby called to tell me my daughter had found a rattlesnake. Yep.... see the rattle?? Thank god she didn't pick it up... because normally she would. She's only 9.... I didn't think she would know the difference between this and the garder snakes that live around our house. But she did..... they were at least 3 hours from a decent hospital.

I'm glad I stayed home. Camping smamping.

I have searched for so long and never been able to find the vintage faded ones.... and now after admiring them daily for weeks... I am ready to share. I will be listing some of these in my etsy shop. I purchased Charlotte Lyons' book, Crafted, from her Etsy shop and was just delighted. I was immediately inspired to create a fabric collage and I know I have been promising you a peek.... here it is..... The button I used on for the door knob is one of my favorites. It is the palest light pink and has a beautiful sparkly rhinestone in its centre....

The trim across the roof is very old and handmade. It was in a big bag of vintage sewing notions I bought from an antique mall. I cannot imagine creating something so intricate....

I did some hand sewing, some machine sewing, and some gluing. It really was a fun project.

Meet My New Friend....

Meet my new friend... Sadie Singer. (I wanted to call my second daughter Sadie, but hubby wouldn't let me, so now every inanimate object I own is called Sadie). Sadie is my lovely new friend. And doesn't she have the lovliest carrying case you ever saw??? Love that! I figure if I am nice to her she will be nice to me too..... I am just learning. Its kind of scary.... I won't tell you how long it took me to thread it. I made this little cone to fill with sweet goodies for my friend's birthday...... I don't usually use green but I thought I would give it a go since I had this lovely old vintage green button.....

And this.... is the card that will accompany it. Now.... aren't my stitches so straight! Don't laugh.... I'm sensitive. I don't think it is Sadie's fault..... it is entirely my own. But you'll see.... it(read I) will get better.....

It is Christmas in July on Etsy.... and you know how much I love Etsy..... so it must have been on my brain because my recent flea market visit was quite Christmas orientated!!

I just love old Christmas ornaments.... the patina, and those sweet chenille trims! So sweet. Christmas could come twice a year as far as I'm concerned! Hope your all having a great weekend!

Even though my heart belongs to vintage fabric and trims, glitter, sparkle, and whimsy..... these paintings really make me feel..... I am sure you will recongize some or all of them.

Heritage Show & Sale

My youngest daughter and I headed out to a small town Heritage Show and Sale this weekend. I have never seen so many tractors in one place in my whole life! Finally... after wading through all of them I got to the flea market area.... (which is what I was really after) and I am so glad I went.... Found this 1904 Edition of Alice in Wonderland...... With the most wonderful illustrations by John Tenniel....

And an old scrapbook with tons and tons of wonderful old images from a 1937 Canadian newspaper..... love this one.....

Lots of fashion ads.....

And sweet art work.... I will have to share a bunch of these with you in the future.... really neat stuff....

So looking at all those tractors was definately worth it! I decided to try my hand at embroidery this weekend.... here is what I came up with. I am happy with it, considering I just kind of flew by the seat of my pants.... not sure what I will do with it now.... maybe attach it to some cardboard and make a door hanger or something like that.... let me know what you think!
